Elements can be classified as metals and non-metals on the basis of their physical and chemical
properties. Metals are lustrous, malleable, ductile and are good conductors of heat and electricity.
Non-metals do not have these properties. Chemical properties involve reaction with air, water, acids
etc.
A student took samples of four metals A, B, C and D and added them to the following solutions one by
one. The results were:

Corrosion is a natural process that converts a refined metal into a more chemically-stable form such as
oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It is the gradual destruction of materials (usually a metal) by chemical
and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment. Rusting of iron is the most common example of
corrosion.
