Comprehensive Master Sheet: Thermal Properties of Matter
Student Name: ____________________________________ Class: 11th (CBSE/NEET/JEE) Subject: Physics
Section A: Thermal Expansion & Calorimetry
1.
Show that coefficient of cubical expansion $\gamma$ is thrice the coefficient of linear expansion $\alpha$ ($\gamma = 3\alpha$).
2.
A sphere of aluminium of mass $0.047\text{ kg}$ at $100^\circ\text{C}$ is dropped into a copper calorimeter containing $0.25\text{ kg}$ of water at $20^\circ\text{C}$. Final temperature is $23^\circ\text{C}$. Find specific heat of aluminium.
Section B: Thermal Conduction & Radiation
3.
Define Thermal Conductivity $K$. A metallic bar of length $L = 0.5\text{ m}$ and cross-section $A = 10\text{ cm}^2$ has ends at $100^\circ\text{C}$ and $0^\circ\text{C}$. Calculate heat transfer rate ($K = 200\text{ W/m}\cdot\text{K}$).
4.
State Newton's Law of Cooling. A body cools from $80^\circ\text{C}$ to $50^\circ\text{C}$ in 5 minutes in surrounding air at $20^\circ\text{C}$. How long will it take to cool from $50^\circ\text{C}$ to $30^\circ\text{C}$?
